Throwback! A couple weekends ago, Alfred’s painting faculty visited Düsseldorf for the weekend! The faculty had critiques with the 2nd year grads, participated in the city-wide art show Kunstpunkte, and spent their time touring museums.
Before Kunstpunkte, they enjoyed a short trip to Bonn to visit the KunstMuseum Bonn. It featured a retrospective on Bruno Goller from 1922-1992, as well as studio paintings of Katharina Grosse from 1988-2023!

More pictures to come from their visit soon!✌🏽

The second year grads took a trip to Leverkusen and visited the @museum_morsbroich! A big thanks to the museum’s curator Dr. Thekla Zell for giving an amazing tour on the history of the museum and for her insight on the inspiring exhibition, “against the sky. contre le ciel”, featuring the two artists Jef Verheyen and Johanna von Monkiewitsch!

The Alfred-Düsseldorf studio was open for Kunstpunkte!

This studio features a unique program between Alfred University in Alfred, New York, and Düsseldorf. Graduate students are given a space here to explore and develop their artistic methods, while preparing for their MFA theses. This program provides students with the opportunity to gain international perspectives on art making, as they shape their practices in both the United States and Germany. You will find a diverse range of artwork within this studio, featuring not only work from the graduate students, but also the works of some of their professors, like @stephemcmahon@satron_paint and @patbrennanpics.

The second year grads traveled to Cologne to spend the morning with renowned artist Frauke Wilken, where they got to visit the Church of St. Ursula and Frauke’s studio to learn more about her work in person. They also went to Museum Ludwig to see many wonderful artworks, and traveled to the Cologne Cathedral to see an installation of stained glass artwork by Gerhard Richter. This is just one of the many opportunities that the Alfred-Düsseldorf program provides for meeting and connecting with artists in Germany! The grads are so lucky to spend two semesters of their program in Düsseldorf.

We welcomed Deanna Evans last week to our Alfred campus to meet with our 2nd year grads in their studios and MFA shows. Deanna Evans Projects: http://deannaevansprojects.com

Paris trip day two! The grads took a boat tour along the River Seine to see many beautiful Parisian landmarks, they went to visit the Centre Pompidou to see some great modern and contemporary art, and they took a nighttime trip to the sparkling Eiffel Tower!

The first year grads had their Paris trip last week! They spent their first day exploring locations like the Latin Quarter, the Notre Dame, Boulevard Saint Michel, and Montmartre. They enjoyed eating at a traditional French cafe, and seeing the beautiful cathedrals of Sainte-Chappelle and the Basilica of Sacré Coeur de Montmartre.

The first years went to the NRW Forum to see two amazing shows: the “Sneaker” exhibition and a retrospective of Tim Berresheim titled “Neue alte Welt.”
